Ipswich Mini Storage tips

Storage Tips

Let us help you make your storage experience as easy as possible with these helpful storage tips.

Preparing your Unit

We do not recommend you store items directly on the floor. Instead, put down a protective cover and place storage items on pallets/boards to guard against the cold and dampness of the concrete floors.

Furniture & Appliances

Clean and vacuum furniture and appliances removing all food and stains to avoid attracting pests. Refrigerator and freezer should be thoroughly dry and stored with its door slightly ajar. Keep upholstery off the floor. Stand sofas and mattresses on end.

Use Space Wisely

Store wrapped pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, and other small items in furniture with drawers.

Stacking Your Items

Always stack lighter boxes/bins and breakable items on top of heavier ones.

Fragile Items

Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper or bubble wrap and packed in sturdy bins/boxes. Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped carefully in bubble wrap, towels, or other padded options and stacked on end, not lying down.

Metal Items

To retard rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil. This method works well on work tools, bicycles and fireplace tools.

Restricted Items

Do not store any food of any kind even if canned or sealed. You may not store perishables liquids, explosives, flammable liquids and fuels, toxic materials or other items that require a controlled environment. Store irreplaceable items in a bank safe deposit box - not in your unit. Also, if storing an automobile, or other gas-powered vehicle or equipment, you must drain the fuel in the tank to a minimum before storing.

Insurance

We do our best to safeguard your property but we cannot insure your things. Therefore, we suggest that you contact your insurance agent to see if off-site storage is covered by your homeowner’s or renter’s policy. If needed, we do have insurance applications for your convenience.
